Is he "Trying" to take on Tom Cruise?

I just watched the DON 2 - Mujhko pehchanlo me hun don (that song.)
/shock
Not only do I hate SRK for ruining a Classic and for his utter inability to do anything original, (I want a refund for Ra-One!) I also hate the fact that he bores the shit out of me trying to sell everything. (Remember that LUX campaign?)

This time, he's trying to take on Ghost Protocol.

A foreign locale, lots of advertising showing action sequences.

The bike, the big hair, all that "machismo" oozing out.

The firang girl, the gang-lords, the superhero moves and the single-handed defeat of the bad guys.

See the similarity?

/wahaha

Not to mention that Tom Cruise still looks great at his age and is more believable as Ethan Hunt!

I don't know much about the storyline of DON 2 and I don't think I would be caught dead watching it, but please! Shouldn't this guy like stop with the Action Hero stuff already? I mean Ra-One was utter crap.

Mr.Shahrukh Khan. if you're reading this, PLEASE! STOP popping up on every channel, youtube, billboard, dhaba-board, tissue paper (whatever your advertising guys tell you is a good medium to exploit!)

On top of that, the 3D tag. This kind of sums up my feelings for "3D" films.
The Oatmeal.
This too.

/dignose

Gah. Stop it dude. Nobody cares anyways.
Its damn easy to buy off critics and papers and everything when you're Shahrukh Khan.
The few movies I have been to, had EMPTY halls. How dare you advertise your film as a "record-breaking-smash hit-god-awesome-thingamajig"?

Please! Retire man.
/please.

I'm done.

How to make Pulao.

/hihi

On some days, I feel so lazy that I don't even want to chew my food. I need something that I can just eat lazily. No fuss types.

When there's no time to stop by in the kitchen and you want something that is fast and easy, Pulao shall save your ass.

The method is simple.

Stuff required :

  • About half a cup of Cauliflower florets, cut and cleaned. If you're a newbie, just zoom into the pic.
  • 1 and half katori (size in pic)of rice, washed and soaked for atleast half an hour. (This is an important step)
  • 1/2 cup of peas. Even frozen ones will do.
  • An inch of ginger (chopped)
  • About 2 tsps of garlic (chopped)
  • 1 to 2 carrots, cut.
  • 2 Potatoes.
  • 1 Large Onion chopped.
  • The amount of water should be double the quantity of rice and the SAME measure should be used!
  • So ill put in 3 katoris of water. Preferably boiling.

SPICES:

  • 1-2 tspof Cumin
  • 1 tsp of Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp of Haldi
  • 1 to 2 tsp of salt.
  • 2 tsp of Dhania powder (the light green one)
  • 1 tsp of Garam Masala. (All spice powder)
  • Also I have used Bay leaf. Just one suffices.
  • And im using Mace. Its that orangey stuff. You can skip this.

Now the walk-through :

Im doing this in a Rice Cooker. You put it on "Rice Cooking" mode to heat it up.
So you put in the ghee.

Splutter the jeera. Then add the Bay leaf and Mace and cook for a few minutes so that it releases its flavours.

Now put in the ginger and garlic.

Then the Onions.

Then the masalas. Cook till golden brown.

Now put in your lovely veggies :)

After the veggies have been cooked a bit, pour in the water. Cover and cook for a few minutes.

Now put in the  drained rice.

Cover and cook.
This shall take about 15-20 minutes. Please dont stir, as it'll only break the rice.

The veggies should be cooked and tender and the rice soft.
You're done :)

NOTE:
The same recipe can be made in a cooker.
Just be a little careful about it burning. And it shall take 3-4 whistles. If its not done, just add a few tablespoons of water, close and cook.
The whistles should be on medium flame and the initial cooking on low flame.

More later!

Joaquin Phoenix

Mark Ruffalo
Drew Barrymore
Noah Wyle

These are the people I was MAD about when I was young...Now all of them are old and wrinkly, but I still love them :)

Joaquin Phoenix in Ladder 49, Noah Wyle in ER, Drew Barrymore for like everything she did, Mark Ruffalo for all those rom-coms! *Sigh*

I also liked Richard Gere, but after a point, he got too...well...how do I put it...ummm...Repetitive! Like it was fun watching him and all, but he sorta lost his charm.
Ditto with George Clooney.

The Swoon factor :P  If I were a man, I would've died for Drew Barrymore. I really would have! /XD

Well, I'm done with this silly and nonsensical post! Back to work now!

P.S. I used to come home from school and watch ER till like 6 or something. It had George Clooney and Noah Wyle. Come on. Judge me. On top of that, it was a medical drama! Things don't get better than that for an adolescent whose life comprises of school and home and nothing in between!

How to make Steamed Rice.

/hihi

Steamed rice is easy-peasy.

Just use double the amount of water as there is rice to cook, and always soak the rice in water before cooking.

For example :
1 cup Rice should be made in 2 cups water.

The method would be : (For 1 cup rice.)
  • Wash rice in tap water atleast twice. Just sorta swirl your hand in it. Don't crush it!
  • Add enough water to submerge it.
  • Keep aside for 30 mins.
  • Now take a pan/kadai and put it on low heat.
  • Add 2cups of water to it.
  • Add a tsp of Ghee to the water.
  • Bring to boil.
  • Drain the rice and add the rice to this boiling water.
  • Reduce heat, cover and cook for 7-8 minutes.
Rice cooks by steam, which is why the closed pan method is great. No stirring is required, as it would only break the rice. If you want to check if the rice is done, with a spoon, check if there is still water in the base. If its still wet, just cover and let cook for a few more minutes. DONT stir!

You're done man! /nobigdeal

How to make Aloo ki Sabji (Dry)

/hihi

This one is made dry, in a kadai. I hope you know what a kadai looks like! :D I suggest you use a Non-Stick one cuz your food will have a low chance of sticking.

For this, you'll need : (You can adjust accordingly alright?)

  • 2 Potatoes, peeled and chopped small.
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Jeera (Cumin seeds)
  • 1 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 Onion chopped small.
  • 1 tsp haldi powder.
  • Salt to taste.
  • A bit of water. (I'm looking at maybe a quarter cup or something)
The Method!
  • Put the kadai on low heat.
  • Put in the ghee.
  • After it gets hot (shall take a few minutes) splutter the jeera in it.
  • Put in the the onions and stir till golden.
  • Now add the potatoes and all the spices/leftover ingredients.
  • This must be done on low heat because we're using raw potatoes, which wont cook on high heat, just burn.
  • Stir around till the potatoes acquire a golden-ish tint.
  • Add the water, not to cover it or make a gravy, just to steam-cook the sabji.
  • A little less than a quarter cup would suffice in my opinion.
  • Cover with a lid and leave to cook, stirring occasionally to prevent the food from sticking and burning.
  • Just pick up a piece of aloo and taste it, if it seems soft and edible and everything, its fine!
  • If not, just cover and cook some more.
Its that simple!
Hope it helped :)

How to make roti. (Indian breads)

/hihi

The key to making good rotis is well kneaded dough.
If your dough isn't good, you'll have a terrible time rolling it into shape (if not making it puff up like a balloon!)

In a small plate, take some dry flour for dusting.

Always take a golf-ball size amount of atta to make a roti.
Roll it between your palms to shape it into a ball and flatten slightly.
If you miss this step, your roti will never be even, or circular. It'll look like an Africa-ka-naksha!
/shock

Coat it with dry flour and start rolling on it.
Go slow, first up and down and then left and right.

Every so often, pick it up and dab it in the dry flour on both sides. This will prevent it from sticking.

You should have an even surface to it. It shouldn't be too thin or too thick.
The thickness should be around this :

Can you see?

Dust the flour off it befor putting it on the tawa.
Again the tawa should be on low heat .

Flip it on the tawa after one side is slightly golden.
After the other side is golden too, increase the heat to the highest setting.
Remove the tawa and pick up the roti with the prongs.
Now place it on the open flame and keep flipping it till it rises.

If it doesn't puff up completely, don't worry, just keep flipping it till its cooked. It'll still be edible.

Now turn the flame to low again, place the tawa back and repeat.

The roti can be stored in a container(with a lid) after putting a dot of ghee on the roti.
To keep it hot for longer, line the container with foil.

Remember to be slow and steady. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be flipping rotis likea pro!

Hope it helped!

How to knead dough. (Atta)

/hihi
So you're sick of eating rice and noodles and all that mush, and all you crave is some अच्छी सी रोटी (Roti),but there's a problem.

There's no dough in the fridge. (आता)   /no

So what do you do?

You google how to do it! /XD

I'll make it easier for you and just give you the method. :)

There's no hard and fast rule to kneading dough.
Just go slow and steady.

If you have 2 cups of flour, you will need less than 1 cup of water. The trick is to pour it in 1 tablespoon at a time and knead.
At first it'll look like a soggy mess, somewhere between powder and puree. But it gets better as you knead more.

To make your dough more pliable, add a tsp of ghee.

Simply keep adding water and knead till it resembles the consistency of play-dough. Its not necessary to use up all the water. Just use enough to bind it all together.

I hope this is what your atta looks like!

If by mistake it becomes soggy and un-usable, just keep sprinkling more atta till you can bind it up.
The atta should be like a ball that you can pick up and chuck!

Its that simple! /nobigdeal

Just put into a box with a lid and refrigerate. Never leave it out in the summer, or else it'll rot. In the winters of Delhi, it fine!

Bon apetit!
