Golden Jubilee celebrations at College! (26th July)

Hey again :)

This post is gonna be a wee bit short cuz I'm on the run from the law.
Kidding. :)
(I helped set up!)

So we kicked off the Golden Jubilee celebrations at our college yesterday(read 26th July!), with Mr. P. Chidambaram as the Chief Guest and Padmashri Shovana Narayan's Dance recital.

Mr.Chi Pidambaram in his Mundu. :P

Awesome-ness :P

Lighting the lamp with our beloved Principal Ma'am.

Just Chatting.

Especially when I and my friend were to present the dignitaries with bouquets and shawls :D
My bestie Tanya presenting the bouquet.

Me presenting it to the Principal.

Me as the shawl bearer:)

Shovana Narayan is a beautiful performer!
Also she's an alumnus of our college!
Yay!

Rubbed off the celeb status for a while.
Muhahaha.

Scared off Mere Mortals by shushing them even when they were whispering. "Maintain decorum girls!" :D

Aahh..these days shall be sorely missed.
:D

Why being a Super Senior is AWESOME.

  1. You get automatic authority to lord over the mere mortals who have dared to co-habit the hostel with you.
  2. You can CUT through any damn line.
  3. You are offered food in the hope that you shall not RAG the poor kid who is offering her Maa-ke-haath-ke-bane-laddoo to you. This hardly succeeds. Ragging is inevitable.
  4. You're the ultimate authority in matters of heart, money, college, tuitions.
  5. You always enter the Mess hall first and may choose any place to sit.
  6. When you enter a Junior's room, Pin-Drop silence prevails.
  7. The Warden/Matron/Minions all listen to you.
  8. We get the best rooms of the hostel!
  9. We have the right to wake up any Junior from her sleep and ask her to find out  our names, courses and places of residence!
  10. And the best part! We get wished "Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening Ma'am" regardless of where we are! Its so funny when at college a junior will wish her Prof and then wish the senior near her!
    Professor's befuddlement?
    Priceless!

As its my last year at undergrad and that I'll soon be ragged myself next year (Shudder!) I'm trying to complete as many of my Dil-ki-hasrate as possible!

:)

But I'm not a mean senior :) I do look after my juniors too!
This is just the part of hostel life everybody must go through.
Even I did!
So will they!

Muhahaha!
:D

A song for you.

Lets face it.

Rihanna is like a lot of fun to watch/listen to due to her risque outfits and biting lyrics(especially after the Chris Brown thingy), but only some of her tracks deserve the "Replay" button.

But I have a special place in my heart for this song :)

ITS SO KICK-ASS! (To start with)

Yes, I would like you to love me like a Hot Guy/Ride :P

Plus the beats are so catchy, I start singing this in the shower!

Ooh and this plays at most of the stores around town. So when I'm in a trial room and this is blaring into my ears, I feel a little happier when they don't have my size.
*Insert Nerdy Smiley here*

I would wanna sing this for a guy (when I do decide that I want to be in a relationship in the first place!)

That leads to my next question.
Is it a cardinal sin to be single?

Believe you me, A girl's hostel is not the place where being single is very appreciated.
Rather its perceived as a failure to participate in an arcane mating ritual that every adolescent girl must go through.
My! What a great deal am I missing!
(Heavy dose of sarcasm)

Yes, there are a few lucky ones who find that significant other early in life.
But what about those uber-independent freaks who just don't want to be tied down?

Please!
I can't go on playing the "I love you" "How much?" "Do you love me" volley all night.
I'd rather discuss Reading Comprehensions, Amy Winehouse and the Sovereign debt crisis any day.

XOXO

(I love this song! :P)

Soooo many tuitions. :(

If despite doing all this backbreaking, mind numbing labour I dont get through/ get a good score, I will go and beat someone up.

Someone said that "An empty head, is where the devil rests."

So to prevent a colony of devils from infesting my brain, I went an enrolled myself at IMS.

Thats a CAT coaching centre.

So I now have it form 10-12 and 4-6 and no peace of mind in between.

Don't get me wrong.

The classes are good, the bad part starts when you're out of them.

I so wanna be one of those faces stuck outside there doors with all the colleges I've cracked under my photo.
:D

Coming back to it, Outside the class is when stuff starts unravelling.
I start forgetting.

The moment it ends, I feel like snuggling into a corner and sleeping.
Damn.

I just came back from the 10-12pm one and I'm so damn hungry!
Lunch at 1.20 pm. Hostel. Thursday today.
Mundane Sambar, rice, papad, roti and subji.

Top it all with sleep deprivation.

To whosoever is listening,
All this hardwork better pay off Mister.

Random thought No. 1

Can we eat Maggi and cheese together?

Experimentible.

Very Experimentible.

Bye bye Sanity.

CAT, XAT,MAT,BAT,DOG,BULL.

Please help me, I can't take it anymore :'(

New New!

Hey :)

I just stepped out today to shop for some GMAT books and I decided to check out some lipbalms as I'd run out of my Lotus Strawberry Lip Balm :)

That one was amazing!
But I get bored easily, and hence didn't wanna repurchase. :)

So I got a Nivea Pure and Natural Chamomile and Calendula Lippie.

The packaging is the standard Nivea do, Its a greenish coloured roll on sort that you can slip into your bag on the run :)

It says its for Extra Mild care and Protection for Sensitive Lips.

I don't know what they mean by "Sensitive Lips", seems like a Marketing Gimmick to me.

But the "Pure and Natural" tag may be correct. Its Nivea after all.

The Price:

Rs 159/-

The Verdict:
  • It claims to be 100% preservative free, but I'm not sure how they can prevent something, that makes contact with your lips so many times a day, from going bad easily without  Preservatives.
  • It has no SPF though another variant does.
  • I personally don't want to swallow SPF on a regular basis. Hence a "No-Buy" for me!
  • I like it more than the Lotus one cuz that comes in a tub, and unless your hands are scrupulously clean everytime you use it, it'll spoil (Like my friend's did!)
  • This comes in a Lipstick format. :D
  • Calendula is a Homeopathic preparation that is very very good for the skin. It can cure rashes, pimples, burns and a volley of other afflictions.
  • Its got Camomile(known for its soothing properties), Calendula for care, Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil. Thats good enough for me!
  • I like the fact that Nivea comes up with such awesome formulations. I've never heard something bad about them!

All the pictures are mine! Please don't copy!
When its On:
  • It glides on Super Smooth:)
  • Kind of creamy in consistency.
  • Smells very non-fruity. Somewhat leaf-like.
  • Gives a transparent/sheer kind of gloss.
  • Feels like Instant Hydration! Yay!
  • Obviously needs to be re-applied.
  • No tint. Don't mind that much.
I definitely wont buy it again, purely cuz I get bored. Its a nice product, healthy, very simple to look at and very very essential to Keep your pucker PRETTY! Say bye bye to flaky lips :P
Budget friendly and long lasting. What else does a girl want? :P Thanks for reading! :)
P.S. A review of Himalaya Revitalising Night Cream coming right up!

Hostel and Maggi.

If ever there was a quick and easy to make comfort food made, Its called Maggi.

Available in packs of 5 rupees to 50, it suits the Indian household budget as well as the Indian taste bud.

Lethal combo ain't it?

Well all the science aside, Its a hosteler's staple diet.

Be it sun, rain or weight gain,
Maggi has to be eaten, with masala or plain.

Its the ultimate source of happiness to the hungry and beguiled hosteler, who has piles of clothes waiting to b washed, books, waiting to be touched , and classes that he hasn't been to all year.

The strong whiff of cooked Maggi can heal broken hearts/bones, whatever your ailment. :)

Its the choice of food for late night chats.
Its something you can mix dry and munch away.
Its an integral, an irreplaceable part of life.
Maggi is everything.

My Maggi story is that I used it to cheer up a home-sick junior today :)
This junior wished me in the corridor and when I wished her back, I saw that she was crying.
Immediately the loving senior inside me came to her aid!
The poor soul was missing her mum, she hadn't spoken to her since many days..
So I took her aside, asked her about herself, and asked her if she'd eaten.

I dont' understand one thing.
If you're missing someone, does not eating remedy it?

No!

So I cooked up some Maggi for this sad child and made her eat it.
Best feeling I have ever had..
:D

She is happy now..I'm glad.
:)

We Ragged Juniors today! Yay!

I was smiling today as I was walking down the corridor.. when I encountered a bunch of 1st years.

I did something.

I stopped smiling.

And immediately they had fear in their eyes :P

Muhahaha (me=evil)

So the moment I stopped smiling, I asked them, "First years?"

One of them piped up, "Yes"

I said nothing, but smiled a cryptic smile and walked away!

Peeche se ek awaz ati hai, "Arrey kyun bataya ki hum 1st years hai...Ragging ho jayegi!"

And I just burst out laughin!

Man...its my 3rd year at this hostel..and the same people come in..wouldn't I know a new face when I see one? :D

Poor 1st yearies....:P

So right after dinner, we made them sit in the Mess hall.

It was sooo funny..the look on their faces... like lambs to slaughter!

Well we did nothig of the sort... we just made them ramp walk in a line to us and introduce themselves in "Shudh Hindi"

Lol.

Most of them didn't know that B.Com H is called "वाणिज्य विशेष" in हिंदी !
And that Eco H is अर्थशास्त्र विशेष in हिंदी!

After that, we bid them to call us Ma'am till they got their Fresher's Bash!
Also they're supposed to find out our Introductions that include our Name,Place of Residence, Course, Year and a few more tid-bits.

Its amazing fun!
Watch this space for more Hostel Goss :)

Love,
The Evil Senior :)

I'm back at Hostel!

Hostel spells long hours of chatting away with friends, shopping, late night study sessions, bathing at 3 am, eating mathris and achaar at night and all the good things.

I don't own this pic. I just like it.

Well I'm back :)

Luckily, I have the same room as I did last year!

Man, its my last year in college/hostel.

I don't remember growing up!

It still feels like yesterday when I came to DU and started an independent life.

I have changed, Yes, but at the same time, I'm still the same person..

I'm happy...Its been a beautiful journey, and I'm nearing its end.

This year is a tough year, I have my exams and all the competitive ones to look at..

Also I will be standing for the post of College or Hostel president!
So wish me luck!

I hope I can handle this year with a lot of caution, preparation and organisation.

I hope God keeps showering me with his blessings..
Love,
Aradhna

The Butter Chicken Recipe.

CAUTION : By the time you're finished reading or eating this, you shall have gained the POWER of Butter Chicken. You shall be able to reduce ANYBODY to a quivering mass of nerves wanting this.

I warned you.

This is not something I lifted off the net,
Its the real pic of what I made!

Ingredients:

4 pieces Chicken Breasts, Boneless.
1 cup Curd (I used the Nestle one)
5 medium sized Tomatoes (Pureed)
7-8 cloves of Garlic
1 inch piece of Ginger
4 Cardamom pods, crushed
8 Cloves, crushed
1 inch piece of Cinnamon
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Chilli Powder
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
2 tsp Garam Masala  (All spice powder)
3 tbsp Butter
1 tbsp Oil
1 tbsp Tomato sauce
1 cup Commercial Tomato Puree (Homemade-the brand, is best, also its Coconut milk is very good too!)
1 cup Amul cream.
1 cup Sliced Onions.

Whole Spices:
5 pieces of Peppercorns
4 pieces of cloves
1 bay leaf, torn
1 tsp of Saunf

Salt to taste.

For the Marinade : Try doing this step at least a hour in advance!

  1. Puree the tomatoes, garlic and ginger.
  2. Crush the cloves and cardamom with a mortar and pestle.
  3. Take a mixing bowl and and mix all of the above.
  4. Now add the curd to this mixture.
  5. Add the salt, chili powder, turmeric, cinnamon (broken into pieces ) and Garam masala.
  6. Place the cut up chicken pieces into this mixture for at least an hour.
  7. The longer the chicken stays marinated, the softer and juicier it is. :D

For the Butter Chicken:

  1. Take a nice non-stick pan with a lid.
  2. Pour some oil into it so that the butter doesn't burn.
  3. Put the butter into it and as soon as it melts, throw in the Bay leaves and the whole spices.
  4. Now put in the sliced onions.
  5. As soon as they turn golden, Pour the entire Marinade mixture  with the chicken into it.
  6. Cover and cook till the sauce loses its raw taste(this should take at least 15 mins) Now add the Commercial Tomato Puree.
  7. Check the chicken. Chicken is said to be well cooked if its Springy, Opaque and Separates. I call it the S.O.S method :P
  8. Now add the cream, the tomato sauce and cover and cook for 5 minutes until the fat separates from the gravy.
  9. As soon as you can see the reddish oil separating from the gravy, its DONE!

Garnish with lots of fresh coriander and show it off to all your friends and family!
:D

And tell me about their reactions!
Mine loved it!

My Butter Chicken !

I do not endorse anything but Good ole Butter Chicken.

Say YES to People tree!

http://www.peopletreeonline.com/home.html

I swear by The People Tree earrings!

They are soooo me.

Fun and Kooky. I just LOVE them.

The range starts from 50 and goes upto 300.
(The better the material the higher the price..for exampe the silver ones are found in a differnet section altogether)

Ill show you some of the stuff I have from there:

Brass butterflies with a patchwork back made of recycled materials!
Got these for 100 I think!

This shop can be found near a Barista outlet at CP.(Connaught Place)
I know there are a billion Baristas in CP.. forgive me :(

Ill find out the exact address and post it soon!

But as whatever you buy from here goes to people who Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and also provides them livelihood, please show your support by buying stuff from here.

I'm not advertising for People tree, its just a word of mouth thing that I'm trying to do.

They have awesome rebel tees, and bags, and watches!

Also they have really quirky pottery inside the shop. And there's this balti thats brightly painted with parrots and stuff thats always kept there.

Along with that, they keep CD's and Books too..all of them have a socio-political inclination.
But its pretty neat!

People Tree earrings remain my one true love <3

Try them!

Janpath Maal.

Mumma.
My mum is a Delhi-ite.

She had always told me that when she was my age, she and her dad (my nanu) used to get loads and loads of clothes from Janpath(the bazaar).

She's one of 3 kids and at that time, the Rajouri Garden market wasn't that big. They needed budget shopping and lots of it too.

Growing up, I always had a mental image of my mum dragging a bag full of clothes into the house, Dead-body style. :)

Ill start with the location.

Janpath can be reached by Metro (or by Rickshaw for the more adventurous!). You just have to get down at the Rajiv chowk station, read the signs and get out of the right gate.

Ignore the first few shops outside the police barricade. They're just a waste of time.

Once you're in, please be careful of your belongings. :)

I'm pretty careless >_<

So here's what you'll find:

  • Export surplus goodies- If you look closely at the tags, they seem original.
The only reason they're here and not on a mannequin is that they don't conform to the stringent standards they demand.
Like if its a cotton top, its not of Pima Cotton(which is a type of cotton that truly good brands make clothes of.)
  • S.Oliver stuff! AND other branded stuff.
  • Funky stuff like Jodhpurs, Harems, Afghani's, Pushkars etc etc.
  • Skirts.
  • Bags
  • Belts
  • Earrings.
  • Wash whatever you buy from Flea shops in this
    EVERYTIME!
  • And really super-funky stuff  if you really really scan the place!

Bags:

The sellers next to the Big tree inside the barricade have a very good collection of bags. Just need good bargaining skills.

Pricing: Small stuff 80 to 150. The bigger the bag, the bigger the price.

Earrings:

I pay only 10 -30 bucks for them. The shops are high on visibility. You'll find lots and lots of them. Just be sure to wash them with Dettol before wearing them!

Belts:

Shops are situated near the big tree there too. Just pay 50 to 100 bucks. Most are made of Rexin, a fake leather. They crack after some time. But as they're pretty funky and the price ain't high and that trends change, I feel safe to keep them as use-and-throws.

A word of caution on Janpath shopping : Especially CLOTHES.

As you know, this stuff is rejected, so be on the lookout for tears, stitching flaws, wrong cuts or sometimes the size is wrongly printed. Also sometimes the fit is bad or the colours run.

Even I suffered till I got the hang of it.

Last word, Don't get impatient, these markets are not sorted according to what you want.
The sellers get stuff by the bag for a 1000 bucks or so. The individual peices are retailed and profit is made.Stick to your price, act disinterested and walk away if they dont give you your price.

They are bound to call you back and ask you to reconsider at a price 100 bucks higher than what you are saying. If you persist, they'll fall :P

The price limit for clothes should be 150 or 350 bucks. That is the true worth of them. Anything higher than that, I'd rather buy something from a mall!!!!

Here's me modelling some steals from Janpath.

Steal no 1: Frock from Janpath- 200 bucks.

Wore it with these floral keds I bought in Singapore :)

Steal no 2: Jumpsuit- 250 bucks.

I wore the same shoes.
:)
So I hope you guys had fun reading about my shopping experience!
Comment if you need any info!
:)

This is truly a bad picture. The market is bigger and better than this.

Kamla Nagar Bargaining.

Being a Mall-girl, I really didn't know what smaller level markets held, or had had much experience of buying export surplus goodies.
So when I joined hostel at North Campus, I tagged along with my new found girlfriends to shop till I dropped :)

Central road through KN
Here's what I found:

Shop no 1: Funky Shorts.

Location: Mc Donalds lane. Big Billboard.

Pricing : You got everything between 50 to 150 bucks. THATS IT! 150 bucks is the ceiling.

Stuff found:

  • Funky shorts(Denim,cotton,lycra etc)-99 bucks each.
  • If you go underground into the shop, you'll find loads of stuff under 150/- Tops,Jackets,Frocks,Accessories etc etc.
My take: I bought a lot of long sweaters from there in the winter, all at 150 bucks. The quality was pretty good considering how cheap it is! Colours were good, there is a fitting room inside the shop, variety is great. I  always check this shop out.

Shop no 2: Thela near Book House.

These are the types of earrings he sells.
Location: Mc Donalds lane, Next to Fastrack/Converse showroom.

Pricing : 5/-

Stuff found:
  • Earrings Galore! You'll find them made of glass, plastic, beads etc etc. Brilliantly colored stuff that'll match everything you have in your wardrobe!
  • Its so cheap that i have two boxes full of them! The quality is pretty good, not rusty stuff.
  • The guy who sells it is nice, once I took home a pair that was broken and he replaced it.
My take: BUY BUY BUY!

Shop no 3 : Woodlands,Kamla Nagar.

Location: Mc Donalds lane and also at the main Kamla Nagar lane.

Pricing: 600 to 7000/-

Stuff found:

  • It is a high end store, and I always invest in awesome footwear, cuz shoddy footwear can really mess our health up. Be prepared to shell out 1 to 2 k if you want something nice.
  • If you want something party-ish then go upwards of  2000.
  • Stuff has a lasting quality, great materials and cuts. They're super comfy and stylish.

This is one store I like hitting when the sale's on.
The 60 % off section is pretty okay.
The good stuff is to be found at the 30, 40 and 20 % off section.

Ill do the math for you.

Suppose I invest in a pair of Woodland heels costing me 1500.

Woodlands heels.

I will obviously keep them till they wear out. :P

So even if I wear it 12 times(i do it more than that !)

Its 1500/12 = 125 !!!!!!!

So I guess we can fit footwear into our budget :)
